Like the herps, spiders come in a non-poisonous and a poisonous variety.

the vast majority of spiders are "good bugs", helping control other pests.

some of the more interesting spiders are members of the "Orb" group, so named because of the elaborate and sometimes beautiful webs they weave.

Yellow Garden Spider

("zipper" Orb weaver)

Large but totally harmless, this

spider weaves a "zippered" web

Helps keep down the mosquito population

Wolf Spider

("good" bug)

wolf spiders are usually found on the ground at night searching for prey.

(their Eyes will actually reflect the light back from flashlights.)

Orb Weaver

Drops an anchor line and during the night creates large webs in trees, etc. At sun up the web is taken apart again until re-construction the next evening.
